O’Reilly is the Founder & CEO of O'Reilly Media, which is a company that publishes websites and books, and delivers conferences on technological topics. O’Reilly is an avid supporter of open source movements, as well as a supporter of free software.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University in Classics; however, it was only after he graduated in 1975 that he realized his passion for computers and technology. O’Reilly serves on the board of directors for MySQL AB and Collabnet, as well as on the advisory board at UC Berkeley School of Information. The Tim O’Reilly keynotes explore his deep concern about the future of the Internet, as he believes that restrictions will only hinder our freedoms.
