The speaker began her career as a war journalist in Yugoslavia. The academic went on to serve as Founding Executive Director of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government's Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. She also acted as Anna Lindh Professor of Practice of Global Leadership and Public Policy. She worked as a senior adviser to then-Senator to Barack Obama. She later became Special Assistant to President Obama and Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights on the National Security Council. She was also chosen to chair the Atrocities Prevention Board. Her time as a UN ambassador was referenced repeatedly in the Samantha Power speech.
She is also written or co-edited four books, such as Pulitzer Prize winner 'A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide.'
