Liu Bolin is best known for his thought-provoking images by making himself invisible in his art, remaining completely unseen. Liu attempts to draw attention and to provoke thought to political and societal issues through immersing himself in the background. Liu earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Shandong College of Arts in 1995 and in 2001, a Master of Fine Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
Liu was inspired to create his most popular work, 'Hiding in the City' series, after the Chinese police destroyed the Beijing Artists' Village in 2005. The destruction was because the government didn't want artists to be working and living with each other. Since then, the Beijing-based 'Invisible Man' has been silently commenting and provoking response from the modern sociopolitical conditions his art is based in.
