The keynotes by Kevin Briggs center around his career as a California Highway Patrol officer. Over the course of his 23-year-long career, Briggs has intercepted upward of two hundred suicide attempts from the Golden Gates bridge. Of those hundreds, only two have succeeded in committing suicide.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention honored Briggs with a public service award for his tireless efforts, which he accepted on behalf of the entire California Highway Patrol team. In November 2013, NBC News reported on Briggs' impending retirement, noting that he has plans to continue working in the field of suicide prevention.
Briggs also gave a sobering, personal talk about his experience as a patrolman at this year's Ted conference.
