Gary Haugen

The Gary Haugen talk on poverty discusses the need for us to include law enforcement and anti-violence strategies in development. The civil rights lawyer previously worked for the United States Department of Justice, focusing on police misconduct crimes. Following the Rwandan genocide in 1994, he acted as the Director of the United Nations investigation. In 1997 he went on to found the International Justice Mission (IJM), where he currently works as President and CEO. He is also the author of 'The Locust Effect: Why the End of Poverty Requires the End of Violence,' which he references in the Gary Haugen talk.

The speaker was educated at Harvard University, receiving his BA in Social Studies as well as the University of Chicago, where he obtained his JD.
