As the Director of the Massachussetts Center for Civic Media, Zuckerman is deeply knowledgeable of the nature of emerging media, especially social media and blogging. In fact, he himself, is an avid blogger and digital activist. Zuckerman is a member of the Wikimedia Foundation advisory board and, along with Rebecca MacKinnon, a co-founder of Global Voices, an international network of bloggers and citizen journalists.
Zuckerman has received various awards and honors in recognition of his work. In 2002 The MIT Technology Review awarded him with "Technology in the Service of Humanity" award and in 2011 Foreign Policy magazine called him one of the world's top global thinkers.
