Edwina Liu

The Edwina Liu speech on scientific research discusses the role young people can play in making a difference and solving problems. Currently based in Edmonton, Alberta, the accomplished high school student became interested in scientific innovation in 10th grade following a volunteer experience. She participated in an innovation-focused summer enrichment program at Shad Valley where she and a group of ten other motivated youth designed a back strain-preventing rollator to increase the safety and efficiency of current personal mobility devices. This project was discussed at length during the Edwina Liu speech.

Her recent biology research project on "the synergistic effects of metformin and fluvastatin on prostate cancer" won the Best Senior Health Project award at the 2014 Canada Wide Science Fair.
