Bastian Schaefer has given keynotes on his work at Airbus Operations, a company which explores the future of aviation and jet design. Schaefer retains the title of Cabin and Cargo Innovation Manager at Airbus Operations. He and a group of innovative engineers are currently working on building a concept plane.
Schaefer believes that one day plane parts could all be 3-D printed. He claims that they are lighter than currently manufactured plane parts, which will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He envisions the planes of the future as having entertainment areas, seat that conform to passenger body types and more natural light.
Some of his previous projects at Airbus include working on the development of A380 stairs and components for in-flight entertainment.
