Abraham Verghese

Abraham Verghese's presentations solidify his compassionate medical career. He currently works with Stanford University's School of Medicine as a Professor at the department of Theory and Practice of Medicine and as the Associate Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine.

While Verghese's current academic positions are impressive to say the least, he traveled a long, hard and bumpy road to get where he is today. He began his studies at India's Madras Medical College and later finished his fellowship at Boston University's School of Medicine. Verghese's difficult experiences as a foreigner in the health field characterized the bulk of his education, and his related trials and tribulations have been documented within the New Yorker's 'The Cowpath to America' articles.

Verghese's unusual ascent within his professional realm are reflected in his presentations. He draws listeners in to the problems associated with today's prototypical patient-doctor relationship, and his concern with this critical issue coincides with his foundation of the University of Texas Health Science Center's Medical Humanities & Ethics division at San Antonio.
