Greener Buildings

In this keynote on how to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, Tom Rand outlines an interesting proposal for not only how to go about this task, but also how businesses can make larger profits in the process. By demonstrating the steps he took in creating his own Green Hotel, Tom shows the audience that by decreasing his own business’s carbon emissions by three quarters, he was able to create a hotel that used green technologies which paid for themselves and increased his profits. Tom Rand uses this model to show how buildings from all over the world can adopt this strategy, with support from their governments, to reduce carbon emissions by a third and create a stimulus package that would also create local jobs and make the businesses money.
