Deepika Kurup, an inventor, scientist and advocate who's currently attending Harvard, explains how she developed a highly efficient purification system in her talk on clean water.
She explains that she first became interested in finding a way to create more clean water when she was growing up in India, where at 14 years old, she noticed that some children were drinking water that looked incredibly unsafe. She points out that less than 1% of the fresh water on earth is available for human consumption and the population is rising, meaning that the availability of clean drinking water is quickly depleting.
Throughout her talk on clean water, Deepika Kurup explains how she created a cost-effective, efficient and eco-friendly purifier that would remove bacteria and other contaminants for families in need. She explains that it was important for her to look at the issues other systems faced and to never let her status as a teenager get in the way, making for an inspiring talk that prompts other young people to make a difference in the world.
