Daring to Succeed

At Guilford College, Cheryl Hatch gave a speech on journalism for TEDx, in which she went over the ups and downs of her career, and how she managed to succeed when times got tough.

Having worked independently as a photo journalist in Liberia, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan and Eritrea, there were times when she feared greatly for her life, however she didn't let that get in the way of getting the story she wanted to bring to the rest of the world. Having grown up with a military father, she was taught to always hold herself accountable for her actions, which she believes had a great impact on her ability to motivate herself later in life.

In her speech on journalism, she says that the greatest advice she can condone is "dare greatly," a phrase that she often remembered when readying herself to go out on a difficult job. With this, she means to not suppress yourself in order to maintain a sense of security and to never be afraid to express your feelings to another person.
