In his speech on fear, Ramy Mahmoud explains the concept of a fear quotient (FQ) and how that impacts the youth of today.
The teacher first differentiates between people who have a low or high FQ. For example, someone who has a high FQ believes in the concept of perfection and places a high level of importance on societal labels. Protecting their perceptions of how they see themselves and how others see them is paramount. Meanwhile those with a low FQ seek out growth and areas of their own limitations.
The speech on fear also delves into the idea of instant gratification as a parenting style. The speaker says this method both devalues effort and eliminates opportunities for children to experience failure. This results in a sense of entitlement. Students expect results without being willing to stick their neck out. Luckily, Mahmoud believes a high FQ is a learned behaviour and can be corrected.
