The Gala Darling self love keynote tells an audience that there needs to be less criticism and more positivity in life. She starts her keynote by informing the audience about the power of self-perception. She does this with the example of how little girls think; she says they are more afraid of getting fat than losing their parents, getting cancer and even nuclear war. This simple yet direct statement shows how much weight goes into appearance and self-perception. Darling warns about the dangers and effects of low self-esteem.
Darling doesn't just blame this on society however, she believes that we are the ones that hold ourselves back from things. She says that if you can move past this then you'll be free to do what you want. She gives great advice when she says, "You need to focus on your assets and not your flaws."
Darling started a radical self love movement, which has really helped improve women's lives. They have left abusive relationships, started businesses, gotten over eating disorders, traveled and much more. She says that there are many things that you can do to improve your own self love and love for other people. This includes giving compliments, practicing gratitude, not reading tabloids and coming up with your own visions of what relationships, careers and success look like.
