Raising Resilient Children

Margrét Pála's resilience education keynote preaches unusual learning methods and recreational devices for children as a way of breaking them free of traditional constructs they place on themselves inside their own minds.

Pala is from Iceland and she spends the first part of her keynote explaining the history of her native land. All of the history leads up to the point that Iceland is a very unique nation, unlike many of its neighbors. Specifically, Iceland has very interesting approaches to education. Whereas most education systems attempt to teach children routine and good habits, Iceland education preaches resilience and independent thought.

In 1989, Pála created her own pedagogical model for a single kindergarten class in Iceland. That class went on to be one of the most talked-about education projects in Europe.
