The Nicole Kuepper keynote on expanding solar energy technology to people in developing countries takes a proactive approach to maintaining planetary resources by providing clean and renewable sources of power to everyone.
Rather than focusing specifically on improving the quality of renewable power sources in only the developed world, the 23-year-old PhD student at UNSW’s School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering argues that everyone should be included in the environmental movement. Since eco-friendly power sources tend to be more expensive than traditional methods, the ability to promote these technologies in low-income areas is difficult.
However, with the use of a low-temperature process of printing solar cells, which the speaker has created, Kuepper believes that solar technology can become more accessible to people in less wealthy nations around the world.
