Malcolm Gladwell Discusses What to Avoid in Conversation
Sophia Pelka — March 28, 2012 — Keynote Trends
In this speech, Author Malcolm Gladwell discusses the reasons for which humans develop different opinions from one another. Sharing a variety of interesting anecdotes and stories from the music industry, he demonstrates why asking for what somebody thinks of something -- he uses the example of a song -- can result in poorly represented information or opinions.
Using the example of when small tidbits of a song are sent out to be sampled by random individuals to test its reception, he weighs the advantages and disadvantages of not being provided the entire story or set of facts when making a decision. Too much information can sometimes interfere of overwhelm an individual, while not enough information often forces people to rely on past judgement and experience to come to a conclusion.
