Joy Hirsch is a neuroscientist and director of Columbia University's Program for the Imaging & Cognitive Sciences who specializes in neuroimaging of cognitive, perceptual, emotional and language processes. In this brief and eye-opening talk, Joy Hirsch discusses technological advances and changes in her field, including an emerging field she calls "brain reading."
Although Hirsch states that the integration of old technologies is more common than the integration of new technologies, she says the strength of the brain-scanning machines and faster computers which allow a more efficient review of the images continue to occur.
The emerging field of "brain reading," which she says takes very seriously the global patterns of the brain, involves engraining new algorithms into the brain in order to track what the brain is doing while carrying out a certain task.
