Singer-songwriter and novelist Josh Ritter discusses the necessary task of every artist to promote their work to as many people as possible.
In this talk, Ritter relates the artist's business plan of "I want everyone to hear this," which he says is something it may take time to become comfortable with. Ritter is also quick to differentiate between merely promoting yourself and promoting something you've created. Drawing on the example of the Kardashians, who promote an idea of themselves rather than tangible work, Josh Ritter explains that songs and books that you have created and want others to see and experience is almost like having children.
Ritter's advice for artists is that they must commit to putting their work in front of as many people as possible, and to be honest with your ambitions, as no one is going to see your work if you are not putting it out there.
