Rod Beckstrom's Internet Policy Keynote Examines its Cohesiveness
Jaime Neely — October 30, 2012 — Keynote Trends
Rod Beckstrom, the President and CEO of ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)discusses the contemporary, global nature of the world wide web in this Internet policy keynote. As he explains, the Internet was first developed in the United States and was 100 percent American. Now, however, it is 100 percent global.
The majority of Internet users perceive it to be one thing, but it is actually made up of millions of networks owned by various groups. Beckstrom outlines domain names, networks/IP addresses and the protocol and primary registries as the three things that unify the Internet today and make it look like one entity.
His Internet policy keynote argues that enormous ongoing effort and collaboration between these governing bodies is required to remain the unification and democratic nature of the Internet.
