Srikumar Rao Discusses If/Then Models in This Hardwired Happiness Keynote
Andrew Robertson — May 30, 2012 — Keynote Trends
In this hardwired happiness keynote, Srikumar Rao explains how everything you can get you can un-get as well. People often adhere to a model of "I need to get this in order to do that so that I can be happy." This if/then model is a universal approach and the only differences are the particulars that make up the if/then.
Rao argues that there is nothing one needs to get, do or be in order to be happy; happiness is something that is already hardwired within a person's brain. The reason people often get upset, depressed or discouraged is because they constantly make it their goal to find something that is unsatisfactory, or needs to be changed.
The happiness teacher doesn't encourage an over-placid approach towards life but rather the adoption of an attitude that encourages one to consider their actions as adventures and to think about what positive adventures one wants to experience.
