The Origins of Global Debt Problems

Juan Enriquez begins his global debt crisis keynote by thinking of the problem as two waves. He asserts that it is crucial we ride one wave while preparing to ride the next. Speaking to this point more specifically, Enriquez finds importance in looking at finance, while also looking at what makes countries survive in the long term.

He goes on to discuss the housing crisis that hit the United States and explain the problems that caused it. He blames a variety of players in that particular game, but ultimately admits that if the housing market were the only problem, then it would be close to solved by now.

Enriquez goes on to explain how this housing crisis effected the rest of the economy in the United States as well as the world.
