In this democratic innovation keynote, Colin Powell outlines some of the new things happening in today’s world and traces their origin from the freedom enabled by democracy.
Powell starts his keynote at the GW Global Forum in Seoul by pointing out that more countries than ever before are living under democratically elected governments. He asserts that this is an influential factor in spurring innovation because it gives citizens the freedom to get new information and try new things. Powell also asserts that this increase in global democracies has lead to fewer wars (although he admits it may not seem like it).
General Powell says the most important factor influencing innovation is economic wealth and job creation. He amends this statement by saying that he means wealth that brings up all people, not just a select few.
