In this dating talk, sisters Arum and Dawoon Kang discuss the beautiful truth of online dating. Along the a third sister, the speakers founded Internet matchmaking platform Coffee Meets Bagel. They explore what data demonstrates about the behaviour of people dating online and what differences exist between singles and couples on the site.
The dating talk first proves the truth behind ugly stereotypes like men only go after younger women and women like men with higher salaries. However, they also note that we tend to focus on factors that make us desired or more popular. But people don't sign up because they want to enter a popularity contest; they want to find someone special. Therefore, people shouldn't emphasize what makes them more desirable, but what makes them connect with others. The main difference between the profiles of single people and couples were the length of their profiles. Length was also a differentiating factor in chat lines between people.
The lesson of the online dating talk is unless you open yourself up, share more and get vulnerable, you won't have anything real.
