Comics don't enjoy a particularly lofty intellectual status in terms of public perception, but Neil Gibson's comics talk aims to show why the low-brow goofiness that people associate with comics belies the actual value of that artistic medium. In his talk, the founder and editor-in-chief of British comic publisher TPub looks at how comics can help readers to both improve their memories and even improve their careers.
Like many people, Gibson always assumed that comics consisted entirely of superhero stories and other "kid stuff." But while in Vancouver on a backpacking trip, he briefly stopped in to a comic shop to get a gag gift for a friend and ended up getting enticed into buying a copy of Alan Moore's iconic comic 'Watchmen.' That was when he realized that comics can be deep, intelligent, and even life-changing, and it spurred him to a lifelong passion for the medium.
