In her talk for TED, leadership and organization coach Betsy Kauffman considers how employees can have more honest and direct conversations with their colleagues and managers, without over stepping their boundaries.
For many, it can be difficult for them to voice their true opinions in professional settings, be it in a larger team meeting, or even directly, when their own manager gives them a deadline or task that is unrealistic. In her talk, Kauffman highlights the many different settings this can take place, and states that passive aggressive conversations behind the scenes can just lead to more unhappiness and dissatisfaction in the workplace.
She says that improving workplace communication comes down to a combination of four things: confidence, intent, delivery, and maintaining a solution-oriented mindset. Kauffman continues by offering useful examples of how employees at all levels can get their ideas out, without brining those around them down.
