This Gabe Zichermann Keynote Promotes Video Games
Andrew Robertson — May 12, 2012 — Keynote Trends
In this Gabe Zichermann keynote the co-author of 'Game-Based Marketing' talks about the benefits of video games as they apply to childhood development and learning.
In regards to children who are suspected of having A.D.D. but are able to focus and do well while playing video games Zichermann asks “is the world too slow for children to appreciate?” Games have come a long way since the days of Tetras and Pong, modern games require players to multitask chatting, texting, managing long and short term goals, dealing with interruptions, etc.
In a study about grey matter and fluid intelligence (used for problem solving), seeking novelty, challenging yourself, thinking creatively, doing things the hard way and networking all factor into increasing one’s problem solving capabilities -- things that exist within the majority of successful games.
Ending his presentation Gabe Zichermann encourages parents to enter the video games with their children and learn how their minds work from the context of the game outward rather than from the outside inward.
