This beauty dichotomy keynote by Cameron Russell discusses the general nature of perception based on appearance in both positive and negative ways.
Cameron Russell is a runway model and has been for ten years. She says she became a model because she was given good genetics and a legacy. The legacy she speaks of is her white skin and slim figure, which has historically been the predominant image of beauty across. She doesn't point this out to boost her own ego though, as she admits she is one of the most insecure people around. The reason she points this out is to contrast it with the disproportionate number of black and Latino men stopped and frisked by New York City Police officers.
Russell struggles with the knowledge of such gender and racial oppression, all while understanding she is actually benefiting from such preferences.
