In her African education talk, Rumeet Billan explores what it means to answer the question,‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ She shares her personal experience meeting young orphans in Kenya and how they answered the same question. Being in a developing country where few have the opportunity to move on to secondary school education was an eye-opening experience for Billan. She asserts that instead people should be focusing on who they want to be rather than what they want to be or a title. Rather than saying one is a humanitarian, one should explore why he or she wants to be a humanitarian. The speaker uses saving the lives of those affected by disaster as an example.
The motivational African education talk also looks at how plans can change and how the future is unpredictable.
